Silk Painting Mandala Workshops

MANDALA POWER: Create Your Own Personal Mandala

A Silk Painting Workshop with Fiona Stolze

Current dates available: Saturday

Venue: Bristol – details given on registration.

Time: 10am – approx. 4pm

Cost: £50 including materials. Light lunch included.

Come and join in with this day workshop of silk painting and high creativity. I will be introducing you to the concept of the mandala as a tool for focussing and calming your mind. Mandala originates from Sanskrit and means ‘mystical circle’.

Each workshop will take place in a small group and so you can be sure of lots of personal attention and guidance.

We’ll start by me sharing some basic colour information and then you will learn some basic silk painting techniques using gutta (resist), silk dyes and salt. You’ll then start to create your own personal mandala on satin silk with my help. This will be purely your own unique expression. During the day I’ll be chatting to you about colours and their different and giving you lots of hints and tips along the way. Your power mandala will reveal itself to you moment by moment: a unique piece of artwork to be treasured.

I’d like to warmly welcome both complete beginners as well as those of you who have painted on silk before. Come and participate in this workshop as no previous experience is necessary at all. The process is gentle and powerful and you will find that the vibrancy of the colours effortlessly draws out the artist within you.

I will send your artwork on to you by post after I have steam-fixed the dyes. This process lends the silk a translucent sheen and intensifies the vibrancy of the colours.

You don’t need to bring any materials with you as everything provided during this workshop. Tea, coffee and water will be available. We will take a short lunch break at around 1pm.

Pre-booking is essential.

If you’d like to register, please get in touch as soon as possible. I look forward to having you with us. 🙂

  2. Hi – I am trying to find out info. on the artist Stolze. My mother left me 2 pictures painted on silk with this name. Now I’m trying to find out what they might be worth. She had them around the 1980’s or early 70’s (but I’m not too sure on the year) They are two iris’ with the colors of purples. They are beautiful and I had 2 new picture frames made for them along with the same colors for the matting. Could you please let me know how old they are, as I’m thinking about selling the two.

    Thanks,
    Diane Manche

    • Dear Diane

Thank you for contacting me with your question. Unfortunately I am unable to help you as I am not the artist of the paintings you have nor have I any way of knowing who the artist of these paintings is or was. My suggestion would be to take them to a local gallery and get them valued. The artist is most definitely German, as is my name and silk painting is very popular over there.

I hope someone may be able to help you out, Diane. Good luck with your search.

      Kind regards

      Fiona

  5. Love your work, as I work in Batik and do some work on silk. Trying to steam silk from silk painting has always been a challenge to me that I haven’t tried to resolve. My newest piece is on silk.

    • Thanks for your comment Muffy. Yes, steaming can be a challenge and often holds people back from trying silk painting. There are some posts on this site which many offer some help. 🙂

  6. I wonder whether you might be interested in taking part in our Christmas Fayre. The Fayre will be held in our Start Living Centre, Glass Walk, Cabot Circus, Bristol in our newly opened space. The Fayre will be held from 2 to 7 December from 10am til 6pm daily. Once you have set up your stall, it can remain until breakdown on 8th December as our Centre is both indoors and secure. The cost of taking a stall will be £25 with a commission of 25% payable on sales made during the Fayre.

The ethos of our Centre is to encourage people to use natural resources better and to live sustainably. We feel that many of your crafts people embody this principle through the jewellery, textiles, ceramics, glass and other objects that they craft. We want to promote local producers in our Centre.

Our Centre has a flexible space that can be used for exhibitions, conferences and meetings. We have only been in operation for just over a month and you can read more about our official opening at http://www.bitc.org.uk/south_west/programmes/environment/start_living.html If it is helpful, I can post you some of our information leaflets.

The key audiences at Cabot Circus are adults with families, university students and younger people so your members may wish to concentrate on stocking fillers and smaller presents. However, having said this, Cabot Circus also attracts a high end customer at Harvey Nicholas and other high fashion brand retailers. We have 4 ft round tables or your members can bring their own exhibition unit.

I would appreciate your guidance on how best to encourage your members to exhibit at our Christmas Fayre and look forward to hearing from you.

    With best wishes
